Prepare yourself for a wet and wild water adventure next time you visit Mackinaw City with the grand opening of Mackinaw's very own Water Park slated for this July. Thunder Falls Water Park is located at 14819 Nicolet Ave., accessible from Interstate 75 exits 337 and 338 and nearly impossible to miss. The newest attraction to hit Mackinaw City since the introduction to the Crossings, Thunder Falls Water Park is expected to be the home of the largest dynamic wave pool in Michigan with a facility boasting more than 20 acres of property and 12 water slides reaching as high as 425 feet above ground.
An estimated 250,000 gallons of water will be contained in the wave pool alone and an additional 500,000 gallons will travel in a continuous flowing loop otherwise known as the "lazy river." An astounding 3.996 million gallons of water will be pumped and filtered each day during the summer at a rate of 3,700 gallons of water per minute. To enhance the park's overall design, more than 200 trees were saved to be incorporated and transplanted throughout the grounds helping to create the general feel of the forest within the facility.
The park features a tots "sprayground" for toddlers and an aqua-play apparatus that sprays out water for small children to play in. Thunder Falls also has two different slide towers, family-oriented tube slides and body slides as well as three other speed slides. For more family fun and convenience the park also offers up arcade games, prizes, video attractions, a food and beverage service and will host special events with radio stations during the course of the summer. General admission for a day at the water park is $21.95, with child tickets at $15.95 and senior citizens over the age of 63 at $16.95. Starting at 5:00 p.m. daily all ages are $12.95 and tots unable to walk on their own are free of charge. If you plan on being in the area for an extended period of time season passes are also available.
