A unique place to experience the splendor of Michigan.
Come Experience Lime Island
Get back to the simple pleasures in life…sit atop a bluff overlooking the Saint Marys River and watch the large freighters pass…head inland on the many trails that lace the island. Fishing can be enjoyed from shore or water and a beach is within close proximity. All this and more is offered to Lime Island cottage and camping platform guests.
Rustic Accommodations
Lime Island cottages have two or three bedrooms and can accommodate up to eight individuals. Water and portable restrooms are conveniently located nearby. Each cottage has limited electrical capabilities. Lighting is produced by solar panels located on the roof.
The cottages are barrier free. Guests should bring bedding, cooking equipment, tableware, flashlights, lantern and a first-aid kit. Warm clothing is recommended.
Camping
Tent camping is also available. Wooden platforms located 400 feet from the docks are used as tent bases to reduce impacts on the surrounding environment. Additional platforms are located on the southeast side of the island and are accessible by water or a 2.2-mile trail from the harbor. Non-platform camping is available up on the hill or on grass in a designated site.
Getting to the island is fun!
Visitors to the island must charter or navigate a boat three miles across the Saint Marys River. Vehicle parking is available on the mainland at Raber. Use of a non-motorized boat to reach the island is not recommended.
Lime Island Season
Cottages and tent camping sites are available from Memorial Day weekend through mid-September. A weekend cottage reservation is a minimum stay of two nights. A maximum stay of fifteen nights is allowed for both cottages and camping unless permission is granted for a longer stay.
There are NO reservations for tent camping. Camping platforms are on a first come, first served basis. Group camping is available after receiving a reservation permit from the Sault Ste. Marie Management Unit.
